A few weeks ago my husband and I took a brief trip to Portland. I had never been there and it had been years since Brett had been. I hear all the time how much Portland is like Austin and since they are known for their food scene I decided I needed to check it out for myself. Luckily, I have a husband who enjoys adventures in dining as much as I do!Upon arrival at 12:30 am (2:30 am CST) we were starving! We had originally planned on going to Clyde Common but due to the plane delay (and poor hotel directions) it was already closed. Per our friendly concierge’s recommendation we walked down the street to Cassidy’s. I was blown away that a bar was serving such sophisticated food until 2:30 in the morning! I didnt get any photos of the food we ate, but we had a grilled romaine salad, chicken fried pork belly and a burger with truffle aioli and shallot jam. It was a great way to start off the trip.
We found it funny that everyone we met there was perplexed that we were there just to vacation. “So you don’t know anyone here? You don’t have a work function or event to go to? Are you visiting old friends?” It seemed as though Portlandia folks don’t give their city enough credit. Yes, the only reason we are here is to check out this city and eat some delicious grub.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed the portland food scene, I have to say that it was our morning trip to Multnomah Falls that took home the trip’s MVP award.

Everything in Portland seemed so lush and green to me and as cheesy as it sounds, I was truly in awe of this waterfall’s beauty. Brett and I hiked the 1.25 miles all the way to the top at 620 ft high. It was crazy looking over the edge! See how small the cars look in the far right side of the picture!
We definitely worked up an appetite and decided to go to Pok Pok. Per Chef Tyson Cole’s suggestions, we ordered Vietnamese Fish Sauce Wings, Pok Pok Special (roasted game hen), Papaya Salad, Neua Naam Pok (flank steak salad) and Jasmine Rice. It was quite the feast!

There were a handful of fabulous places that we tried (some suggestions from Chef Ned Elliott) including standouts Ken’s Pizza and Beaker and Flask.

Overall we had a blast on our trip. The were only a few low points which included the bad directions to our hotel, the rain and the 4:00 am wake up call to get to the airport on Sunday. Here are a few random photos from the trip…
Hello, Portland!

We happened to catch the end of a Pro-Legalization rally
